You might not know this but the Indian vegetarian menu has more variety in dishes. There are choices in preparations that involve vegetables, lentils, chickpeas, cottage cheese and more. These dishes pair well with the flatbread as well as rice dishes.

If it is your first time trying authentic Indian cuisine in Norman, then here we are with some popular dishes that you can order.

VEGETABLE SAMOSA

It is the favorite Indian snack that you can have as an appetizer. The flour dough is flattened and it is filled with a stuffing of potatoes and veggies mixed with spices. After that, it is deep fried in oil and served with tamarind or mint chutney. It tastes really good with all types of beverages.

DAL MAKHANI

Made with black lentils, this is one of the most popular dishes of India. It tastes great with flatbread, especially with chappati or roti. They soak the dal for a few hours and then cooked with onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, and green chilies. After that, it is tempered with spices to add flavors. A dollop of butter adds finishing touches to this nutritious and wholesome dish.

NAVRATTAN KORMA

This is a Mughlai preparation made with vegetables and has very rich flavors due to the unique blend of spice that is used. The word Navrattan means Nine Gems, so there will be 9 types of vegetables in the dish. The veggies are all cooked in thick and creamy gravy of ground dry fruits, yogurt, and cream. It is the perfect dish to try with naan bread.

MALAI KOFTA

Malai kofta is a must try for both the vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians.  Malai means cheese and Kofta means balls. The fresh cottage cheese is grated and mixed with condiments and spices. Small balls of the mixture are deep fried in oil. In a separate pan a thick and creamy is made and after that, it is poured over the fried koftas. The cheese balls absorb the moisture from the gravy and become soft. A good malai kofta will be soft enough to melt in your mouth.

MATAR PANEER

This is another popular cottage cheese preparation made with green peas. The cottage cheese is cut into cubes and made into thick gravy. Addition of spices like turmeric, cumin, red chili powder, and coriander give the dish it’s rich color and flavor. However, the USP of the dish remains to be the matar or green peas. This dish works with plain rice, pulao, naans, and parathas too.

CHANA MASALA

They use chickpeas or garbanzo beans to make chana masala. It is a delicious gravy preparation popularly had with flatbread. The chana is soaked overnight and cooked separately with just salt, water, and turmeric for color. Later on, it is made into gravy made from tomatoes, onion, ginger, garlic and green chilies.
