Depression is a widespread disease that so many adults and teenagers alike are grappling with every day. While a spectrum of underlying problems can trigger this mental illness, the most prevalent reasons for depression are losing loved ones, finding yourself in relationship problems, and struggling with social pressures. Most teenagers nowadays are depressed because of their insecurities as well as the added pressure of being perfect. Depression is often treated with medications such as antidepressants, but therapy also helps people get out of this mental state by talking about their feelings. Needless to say, depression is never anything we should be ashamed about; it's just a feeling. Therapy is a monthly based counseling session to help people get better at finding solutions to their problems. These therapy sessions can extend across varying timeframes to ensure the patient fully recovers. The therapist provides you with an outlet to let out your feelings. However, not every therapist is the same. There are different kinds of therapists for different types of mental illness. Going to a therapist does not mean you are crazy. It's for your betterment to fight off negative thoughts on your mind.

Before the process begins, the first thing you need to find is a good therapist who understands you fully and cooperates with you. You can sit with various therapists on a trial basis to see who suits you better and with whom you are the most comfortable. While therapy has proven to be effective in combating mental disorders, there are still many people who can't get therapy because of stigmatization, lack of awareness, and an inability to afford help.  

There are certain telltale signs which can suggest a need for therapy. The early symptoms include feeling anxious, having no interest in the things you once loved to do, losing your temper, and having thoughts about death. If you are depressed for a very long time and haven't seen a therapist, you may also need the help of a psychiatrist. However, if you notice any signs of depression in your behavior, we highly recommend that you seek the help of a therapist as soon as possible. This is because the more you wait, the more likely it is for the depression to grow.

Counseling is an essential part of therapy. It helps you to talk about your worries with someone and process your thoughts in a healthy manner. That said, this whole process requires you to be patient because the results can take time. You can't expect to get better within a few sessions, and for this reason, it is best to keep an open mind before starting this process.
