You may be wondering what CBT is? Or you may be wondering how those people are saved who face certain mental problems. We shall try to address some of the issues here in this article.

CBT or Cognitive behavioral therapy is actually a certain type of psycho therapeutic treatment. It is proven to be very effective towards understanding the feelings and thoughts which influence behaviors. It is also proven to be very effective in the treatment of addictions, phobias, anxiety and depression.

By nature, CBT or Cognitive Behavioral therapy is for the short term. Now, just because it was for the short term it does not mean that one cannot be treated by it. While it is still a short term treatment method, it is still highly and surprisingly effective. It focuses on helping patients deal with a specific set of problems, some of which we have already mentioned above.

How it helps?

Let’s say that a person has a strong addiction. By CBT treatment, his destructive thoughts are changed. His disturbing thoughts and behavior patterns are changed as well. Slowly but surely, but sometimes the recovery is fast as well, the patient recovers. This is where one needs to have the services of an Experienced CBT Psychologist at Mississauga.

The basics of CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

The basis of CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is that our feelings and thoughts have a strong and fundamental role in the development of our behavior. Take for instance a person who constantly is scared of plane crashes to the point that he visualizes such incidents. We all know that doing this is self destructive in many ways than one. Such a person avoids air travel as well. CBT helps in the sense that it aids in breaking this destructive habit.

The goal of CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Theory is that focuses on teaching patients that they are indeed in control of their emotions and by extension, every aspect of the world around them. They are also taught that they can control their interpretation of the world around them. In this way, their behavior changes. Yes, you have guessed it, a trained and Experienced CBT Psychologist at Mississauga helps greatly in this regard.

In the recent years, it has become very popular, both amongst treatment professionals and mental health consumers. It is more affordable as it is a short term treatment option.
