And while all this sounds good, especially if you’re busy or dislike climbing the ladder to hang your own lights, there are some things you should be aware of and consider before you hire any holiday lighting service.
Depending on how elaborate of a holiday scene you want, the job can be complicated or not. But either way, you need to make sure that any commercial holiday lighting service is experienced and legitimate among other things.

1. Cheap Isn’t Always Best
A low bid could mean low standards for a company. As it has been said many times, you get what you pay for, but sometimes, you don’t even get that. We know your budget will already be straining with the gift buying, attending or hosting Christmas parties, and all the other things that come with this holiday. The cheaper the installer, the less likely you’re going to have the best Christmas lights on the block, and the better chance you’re going to experience one of the two things: danger or disappointment. If something is cheaper than the others, there is usually a reason, sometimes several reasons.

The potential risks of climbing the ladder, working on the roof, and the possibility of electrical shock should warrant caution and worry for anyone. 3. What Source Do They Have for Their Lights and Equipment?
Ask where they buy their Christmas lights from. If they get them from the local dollar store, that is not going to be the best Christmas lights and the bulbs could burn out quickly, not to mention the electrical safety level. They should be using commercial-grade Christmas lights and commercial-grade extension cords.
You can always purchase your own lights so that you know you’ll have commercial-grade quality lights. But keep in mind that a reputable commercial holiday lighting service may only use their lights and e – so ask before you purchase any.
5. Take Caution With Any Upfront Payment
If commercial holiday lighting service asks for any upfront payment, it shouldn’t be more than ½ to 1/3 of the total amount. If any lighting service is asking for the full amount upfront, keep looking for holiday lighting service. It isn’t uncommon to ask for a deposit or partial payment upfront, but it should never be for the full amount.
6. Ask For and Check Their Recent References
Any time anyone applies for a job, you’re asked to supply references, right? And it shouldn’t be any different when you hire a holiday lighting service. Make sure they are recent references within the last year) and take the time to check them. A legitimate service won’t hesitate to provide those references for you.
7. Ask About Their Policy With Any Problems
Before you sign any agreement with a service, confirm what their policies are with any issues or problems you may have during the season. Will they return to replace burned out bulbs and if so, is there an extra charge? Does their fee include removing the lights? And if any damage is done to your house, will they repair it?
